There are nearly 14,000 Afghan refugees registered with the UNHCR in India, mainly living in Delhi and bordering areas.

Historically too, India has been a favoured destination for Afghan traders or Kabuliwalas, who would travel across the mountains to sell spices, dry fruits and attars (perfumes), an association that has been immortalised in many Bollywood films and works of literature.

The Taliban have increased the persecution in Afghanistan of anyone different from them, by their interpretation of the Islamic scriptures.

Many of the refugees who arrive in India are widows and children, so we started a Learning Center for Afghan Education to bridge the gap from Farsi to English and Hindi. The 68 students learn English,  Math,  computers, and living skills related to trauma care and emotional health.

Summer camps provide the students wilh excellent opportunities to meet new friends,  experience trauma healing through music and games, along with many outdoor activities that create lasting friendships and community.

We also have a summer camp for the parents to have special times of learning and integration,  trauma care and managing anger and stress of married life and raising children as refugee parents.

Providing loans to start businesses, help with children's education,  arrange hospital care and translation help, legal help for human rights groups to be involved are some of the ways we come alongside these beautiful people.
